The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

These funds assisted venues that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when Pulp received the trophy in 1996 for their record their work, vocalist Cocker stated that the act would donate their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she split her bounty across several charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Two years ago, they donated their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, as well as other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners M People gave their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had rescued two small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the other in that location were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
